Artists today seek the means of expression using high technology, and engineers get inspiration for new technologies from art. Historically, scientific principles have been applied to art, starting from Western painting. The creative fusion of the elements in science and art accelerated after the invention of photography in the late 19th century. Influenced by postmodernism in the early 20th century, photographic and contemporary art emphasizes subjectivity and uses various technologies and materials as its media of expression. Media art, which has recently become a global trend, is also a new art movement formed by combining scientific technology and art. This class studies the historical development of media art and science, focusing on the case studies on recent media artworks.

Media arts & Sciences
Artists today increasingly look for a means of expression in high technology. On the other hand, engineers search for inspirations for new technologies in art. The media artists’ works create a new aesthetic through this combination of technology and art. This class provides students a better understanding of various artworks from digital painting, media installation, web art to virtual reality and game aesthetics, following the historical process in which digital media has become an art medium. The class also systematically organizes necessary concepts and principles to analyze and understand various artworks.

Research Visual Elements & Immersion Methodology
This course introduces students to explore ways to attract the viewers or maintain immersion in relation to various creative approaches to choose from when designing a story. In addition, the students will learn and examine the ways and meanings that make viewers understand better and deliver the key point effectively, discovering various immersive elements that match the story structure and the visual expression of the screen, information, and emotional symbolism on the narrative.

Storytelling & Producing Methodology
This course is designed to derive a system for story expressions, such as maintaining viewers’ interest when storytelling-based images are presented, the nature of subjective visual perception, and the relationship between response and pattern. The course expands on the direction and method of storytelling and production, including accurate location relationships with characters and backgrounds and the composition of the screen when directing a film. Students will practice the connectivity of scenes, acting, filming, background composition, and lighting arrangement to maximize the effects such as continuity and visual expression methods.

Storytelling & Music Methodology
For storytelling, musical composition acts as an essential tool for conveying the director's intention and message. In this course, students will learn and research the analysis of background music, discovering musical points related to storytelling and scenes, motivation, and how to set the direction of the concept. In addition, various musical application methods required for the emotional approaches to viewers are utilized through practice and projects, such as analysis of musical transformation processes and case studies.

Editing Methodology
This course pursues the improvement of technical editing skills necessary for animation and video and to improve the quality of storytelling results by understanding psychological and humanity based approaches to editing. Students will practice and research the applied theories, focusing on analyzing scenes and sequences. The importance of editing in narrative delivery is studied and practiced using films and videos of various genres. The class is designed to emphasize the effect of editing on storytelling using various editing methodologies.

In this course, theoretical study and practice are combined through aesthetic approaches such as formative languages and textures necessary for animation and images. The students will study 3D figures in detail, considering the characters, backgrounds, objects, and animation setups and textures appearing in storytelling, including various modeling production methods, theories, and analysis to maximize visual effects. In particular, the design production method will help support the formative characters and aesthetic meaning suitable for the meaning of the subject.

Learn the steps and constructions of previs required for film, animation and VFX production. In this course, students practice and modify previs camera settings and movements to familiarize themselves with the flow of the pipeline.

The course focuses on the overall contents related to inorganic modeling and texture processing that are vitally important in animation and image development. In addition, the students will learn the composition method of form and material, the style pursued by the video, and various techniques necessary for the formation of the structure and construction.

This course researches the textures and shading-related visual expression techniques of the model generated in animation and video and studies technical construction methods. Motion Picture Language
Mise-en-Scène is the most basic and key element in storytelling. The Mise-en-Scène is composed on the screen through various movie languages. It is used to convey the director's intention and message to the audience. This course will provide students learning the movie language, comparing and experiencing the process of delivering messages from characters and directors to the audience through the practice of screen composition, and studying how to use storytelling efficiently and proactively.

Cinema & Digital Image Aesthetics
This course analyzes social and cultural phenomena that were resulted from the digitalization of video and interprets them artistically and humanities and studies the production and consumption of video-based media and content, audience and power, reproduction, and cultural consumption. To select each research subject of digital images and proceed with research on them, students will select the text to understand the theoretical foundation and cultural phenomenon. Furthermore, they will set up a methodology that can be applied to their research and work on personal research.
