백구요족은 UN교육과학문화기관에서 인정하였으며 민족문화가 가장 온전히 보전되어있는 민족으로 '인류문명의 활화석’이라 불린다. 백구요족은 오늘날까지 면사 방적, 베, 염색부터 자수와 복식까지 전통적인 공예를 온전히 보존하고 있다. 따라서 백구요의 민족의상은 독특한 민족 복식 문화가 담겨있을 뿐 아니라 백구요족 심미적 의식도 담고 있기 때문에 매우 높은 연구가치가 있다. 본 연구는 백구요족 복식의 양식을 연구해 백구요족 복식의 미학적 특징과 문화적 함의를 분석하고 복식의 구체적인 형태, 제작과정, 배후에 담긴 문화나 사상 등의 정보를 이해하여 백구요족 복식 구조를 형성하는 특성과 차별 점을 분석한다. 또한 나아가 역사적 변천이 민족 복식에 미친 영향을 파악해 패션 디자인과 어우러지는 백구요족의 복식 요소 형태, 문양, 색채를 중심으로 추출하였으며 자수 기법 디테일을 이용하여 작품을 제작함으로써 현대 패션 디자인을 위한 시사점을 주는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 현대 패션 디자인에 독특한 심미적 가치를 부여할 뿐만 아니라 전통적인 백구요족 복식문화와 현대예술 디자인의 조화로운 발전을 실현할 수 있다. 또한 백구요족을 널리 알리고 이들의 복식문화를 전승하고 선양하는데 적극적인 영향력을 줄 수 있을 것이다.연구 방법은 문헌연구법, 현지답사 법, 그리고 심층 인터뷰 법을 활용하였다. 백구요족 복식의 이론적 개념 고찰과 특성을 살펴보고 표현 유형을 분석하기 위하여 국내외 학위논문과 단행본, 학회지 논문, 인터넷 자료중심으로 문헌을 연구하였다. 백구요족은 민속학의 연구범주로, 이 경우 주요 연구방법은 현지답사로 진행하였다. 우선 박물관과 백구요족의 밀집지역을 직접 방문하였다. 본 연구자는 지역 구분에 따라 광서장족자치구(广西壮族自治区)를 중심으로 주변에 인접한 지역구에 위치한 박물관, 도서관, 무형 문화 전승인 작업실(非遗传承人工作室),, 개인 박물관, 공예 공장, 소수민족 협회, 나아가 촌민위원회를 선택적으로 방문해 필요한 연구 자료를 수집했다. 2022년 3월 연구자는 광서 성 장족 자치구 남단 현 이호 향에서 현지조사를 실시했고, 또 일부 사람들과 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 두 개의 인터뷰 내용을 토대로 8명을 대상으로 한 인터뷰를 실시했다. 백구요족 마을주민 및 비물질문화유산 전승자 3명, 박물관 직원, 정부 관계자 및 민족문화연구자 5명을 대상으로 진행한 인터뷰의 결과에 대해 분석하였다. 이는 이후 작품 제작을 위한 효과적인 참고 방향이 되어주었다.
본 연구는 백구요족의 복식문화 특성을 연구한 뒤, 이를 현대 패션 디자인에 접목하여 디자인을 전개하였으며 연구 내용은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 중국 소수민족 백구요족의 역사문화에 대한 고찰은 주로 백구요족의 역사, 백구요족의 지리적 위치와 심층 인터뷰를 통해 조사 분석한다. 백구요족의 복식 발전사에 대해 살펴보고 그 중 남자 복식, 여자 복식을 중심으로 분석하였다. 선행연구를 통해 백구요족의 국내외 연구현황을 파악하고, 다음 단계의 심층 분석을 위한 이론을 뒷받침할 수 있도록 연구하였다.
둘째, 본 논문의 연구 중점은 백구요족의 복식 특성을 분석한다. 그 중 백구요족의 복식 형태, 문양, 색채, 기법, 액세서리 등의 내용이 포함되어 있다. 백구요족 여자와 남자의 의상 형태, 색상, 문양, 액세서리를 체계적으로 분석 및 정리하여 모던한 디자인과 결합하기 위한 것이다.
셋째, 본 연구는 중국의 대표적인 자수(4대 명수), 프랑스식 자수, 백구요족의 자수 등 국내외 자수 기법과 종류를 연구하고 사례 분석을 통해 엘리 사보(Elie Saab), 궈페이 장미방(玫瑰坊), 헤븐 가이아(Heaven Gaia) 3개 브랜드의 2022년 봄여름 컬렉션을 선정해 분석함으로써 자수와 패션 디자인의 결합 적용에 참고자료로 응용하였다.
넷째, 작품 제작은 위의 연구를 바탕으로 백구요족 복식의 형태, 색채, 문양, 액세서리 등의 특성과 모던한 여성복 디자인을 접목하여 자수의 기법을 활용한 입체적인 장식으로 예복 4벌, 기성복 6벌, 여성복 총 10벌을 디자인하여 제작하였다.
백구요족의 복식은 민족의 심미적 특징과 감정을 담고 있는 문화적 기호이자, 민족의 예술을 보여주는 분야로써 백구요족 복식문화는 뚜렷한 특색을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이를 패션 디자인에 응용하고 자수 기법을 활용해 기성복과 예복의 디자인 특성을 응용하여 표현하였다, 이러한 디자인 개발의 작품 제작을 시도해봄으로써 백구요족뿐만 아니라 중국의 우수한 민족문화의 참신한 발전을 위해 적극적인 영향을 줄 수 있기를 기대해본다.

Abstract
Baiku Yao has been recognized by UNESCO as an ethnic group with an intact ethnic culture, and is known as the “living fossil of human civilization”. It is an important branch of the Yao ethnic group, named after the men wearing white pants. The traditional crafts of spinning, weaving, dyeing, embroidering and making are still intact, and the Baiku Yao ethnic costumes are commonly worn and are relatively well-preserved and inherited compared to other branches. Therefore, the ethnic costumes of Baiku Yao not only contain a unique ethnic costume culture but also contain the aesthetic sense of ethnic factors, thus it has high research value.This dissertation studies the style structure of Bai Yao’s costumes, analyzes the aesthetic features and cultural connotations of Bai Yao’s costumes, states the structure, manufacturing process and cultural thoughts behind them. Meanwhile, it identifies the characteristics and differences of the formation of Baiku Yao’s costumes, to grasp the influence of historical changes on national costumes. By extracting the shape, pattern, color and other elements of Baiku Yao’s costumes, the study combines them with fashion design, the embroidery technique is also added to make the clothes, which aims to provide inspiration for modern fashion design, to give unique aesthetic value to modern fashion design, and to realize the harmonious development of traditional Baiku Yao’s costume culture and modern fashion design. In addition, the Baiku Yao ethnic group can be widely publicized, which will bring positive influence to the inheritance and promotion of national costume culture.
This research mainly adopts literature review, social survey, and in-depth interviews methods. In order to investigate the theoretical concepts and characteristics of the Baiku Yao costumes and analyze the expression types, the present research was centered on domestic and foreign dissertations, books, journal papers, and internet information. The study of Baiku Yao is a research category of folklore. Through field investigation, the research data were collected by visiting the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Baiku Yao gathering places, the inheritors’ studio of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), Ethnic Minorities Association and Baiku Yao Villagers’ Committee. In March 2022, the author conducted an in-depth interview with the villagers, the inheritors of the tangible cultural heritage, the museum staff, government officials and researchers of the national culture in Lihu Township, Nandan County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the results which became the effective reference direction for later work production.
After studying the costume cultural characteristics of the Baiku Yao, this dissertation combined it with the modern fashion design and launched the design. The research contents are as follows.
Initially, the historical and cultural investigation of China’s ethnic minorities is mainly through investigation and analysis of the history, geographical location and in-depth interview of the Baiku Yao ethnic group. This dissertation analyzes the costume development history of Baiku Yao, which centers on the clothing structure of men and women. Through the previous study, the current research situation is grasped, and the theoretical basis for the deep analysis in the next stage is provided.
Furthermore, the research focuses on analyzing the clothing characteristics of Baiku Yao. Through the systematic analysis and arrangement of the clothing forms, patterns, colors and accessories of Baiku Yao costume for women and men, the characteristic elements are extracted and combined with the modern fashion design.
Additionally, this dissertation studies the representative embroidery techniques and types at home and abroad, such as Su embroidery, Shu embroidery, Xiang embroidery, Yue embroidery (four famous embroidery in China), French embroidery, Baiku Yao embroidery and so on, makes a case study of new productions for the combining embroidery and fashion design based on the Elie Saab, Guo Pei and Heaven Gaia.
Finally, based on the above research, the clothes in this dissertation combines the shape, color, pattern, accessories and other characteristics of Baiku Yao costumes and modern women's costume design, using embroidery techniques to design and produce 10 sets of women's costumes, including 4 dresses and 6 garments.
Baiku Yao costume is a kind of cultural symbol, which contains people’s aesthetic characteristics and emotional factors, and it is also the field of national costume art. It can be seen that Bai Yao costume culture has distinct characteristics. By applying it to fashion design and combining the design characteristics of garments and dresses with embroidery techniques, it is expected that this kind of design and costumes can have a positive impact not only on the innovation and development of the Baiku Yao ethnic but also on the excellent ethnic culture of China.
