Study Field

As a scholar and academic my areas of focus pertain to postcolonial cinema, trauma studies, horror, and collective memory. I am also deeply interested in East Asian cinema and have been published in The Directory of World Cinema: South Korea. I am also interested in issues relating to cinema as a mode of historical, cultural, and aesthetic confrontation. Along with my academic work, I have worked as a consultant for small studio productions and independent filmmakers trying to tighten and clean up script and story issues. Which led to my first published book The Short Film Fix (2018). As a professor, I firmly believe that the best filmmakers are well-versed in history, theory, and the technical aspects of filmmaking and incorporate these various aspects into courses to deepen my students all-around understanding of the cinema as more than just a storytelling device.
